Zhang Bu Began to like painting when he was a kid, but his was by no means an easy life.
Being from a working family, he naturally had to exert himself harder than his contemporaries,
before he eventually became a famous painter.
Circumspect and farsighted, but not in the least brighter than anybody else, he worked hard,
learning even the most minute thing in a repeated and most down-to-earth way. Thus, he was
able to master all there is to be mastered. "Heaven Awards the Industrious" - one can certainly
reap a rich harvest provided he works hard.
Zhang Bu is quite straight-forward, and very modest too. As a painter, he is well-versed in
painting skills. He is forever seeking the new. With a pronounced colour and strong ink, he
forms a style and school of his own. He has achieved decisive results in his profession. Thus we
can well say that only those who pursue the truth tirelessly can achieve greatly.
It is 30 years since Zhang Bu began his pursuits of painting with me and he is the one and only
student in whom I have the greatest confidence and of whom I feel quite proud.
